The project involved the complete interior refurbishment of a 1970s primary school building, including toilets. The client sought to create flexible, open-plan teaching spaces for maximum flexibility, which was achieved by inserting new structure - visible internally - to achieve the required spans. The “free plan” is balanced by the strategic inclusion of small group learning and breakout spaces which are able to be partitioned off for acoustic privacy. The design features a bold colour scheme as a unifying device, which is coded - blue for ceilings, yellow for structure, orange and red for carpets. The school community is currently enjoying its new space.
