Technology

Materiality

February 10, 2025

It is both useful and desirable to select materials and utilise design strategies which respond to the environment.

We insulate our buildings to the highest standard possible – against heat gain in the Middle East and against heat loss in colder climates. We also implement strategies to shade the façade – particularly glazing.

In the example illustrated we have introduced perforated metal panels, which are folded to form self-supporting, three-dimensional shade structures which block out glare while allowing diffuse natural light to enter the building.

Reducing energy usage and improving occupant comfort are priorities, regardless of building type.

When designing, we will always tailor a response developed from site and project specifics as well as from – more broadly – culture, place, and shared experience

This ensures that our future-looking architecture does its job, while simultaneously blending technology with tradition.
