Design for “outdoor life”

Looking beyond sustainable design, nicholas always strives to create urban environments which contribute positively to the biosphere. This means not simply “keeping things as they are” – which “sustainability” implies – but making a real difference.

We advocate for greening of cities to provide shade, reduce the “heat island” effect and lower external temperatures. We also advocate for designing-in walking routes within and between developments.

The creation of walking routes on different levels, with strategic vertical connections, makes intensification really work.

Let’s make our Middle East cities walkable by joining up developments and creating intelligent physical networks. Let’s walk to transport hubs, where trains or light rail can connect us with the next 15-minute city.
