Urban Ecosystems

Design for cycling

December 21, 2024

Looking beyond sustainable design, nicholas always strives to create urban environments which contribute positively to the biosphere. This means not simply “keeping things as they are” – which “sustainability” implies – but making a real difference.

We advocate for greening of cities to provide shade, reduce the “heat island” effect and lower external temperatures.

Let’s make our Middle East cities cyclable by joining up developments and creating cycling networks. These should preferably be located within green “park connectors,” independent of roads.

Having their own microclimates these heavily vegetated urban parks, with strategically placed tall trees, provide a more comfortable environment for outdoor activity.

They also help reduce car-dependency.

We strongly believe that development should be regenerative – improving outcomes for both the environment and for people.
