Having operated my architecture practice outside of the region for the past 10 years, I made the decision to return to the Gulf two years ago – and chose Bahrain. Why?
Ease of doing business. It is easy to establish and run a SME in business-friendly Bahrain with its low taxation and relatively low compliance costs.
Labour market. Bahrain is a mature market with a highly skilled English-speaking workforce and great connections to universities and regional industry.
Logistics. We work across the region, and while all GCC centres are strategically located in relation to one another, Bahrain’s airport is the best. Travellers can be in and out in 10 minutes, proving that bigger isn’t necessarily better. Bahrain operates the Singapore Changi Airport of the Gulf.
Lifestyle. The smallest Muslim country in the world, Bahrain is liberal (in the traditional sense of the word), pluralistic and open – hosting a record number of religions and religious institutions. Bahraini people are extremely welcoming and accessible.
Real estate. Whether renting or purchasing, residential and commercial real estate in Bahrain is currently undersubscribed and offers great opportunities for non-speculators – i.e. those who want to join communities and invest long-term or live here.
Vision. The leadership of Bahrain is providing great clarity of vision for this small island nation as it heads towards 2030 and beyond. On the world stage, Bahrain punches well above its weight.
Pearl of the Gulf. As neighbours transform through giga-projects, with all the supply chain and logistical pressure that that entails, Bahrain remains a real gem: calm, considered, stable, and a great place to be.
