Looking beyond sustainable design, nicholas always strives to craft city space which contributes positively to the biosphere. This means not simply “keeping things as they are” – which “sustainability” implies – but making a real difference.
We create interconnected urban ecosystems: 15-minute cities where walking or cycling are actively encouraged through great urban design, the greening of streets and the introduction of “park connectors” running between, and through, the built fabric.
Park connectors are green ribbons running from “node to node” which stitch the city together.
Collectively they provide a people-powered transportation network which is independent of road corridors.
Often there is a tension created when traffic lanes are converted to cycling, as vehicle congestion can increase – and the spaces immediately adjacent to busy roads are often not the best place for bicycles and pedestrians.
The creation of an independent walking and cycling network is therefore a win-win, and by making self-propulsion more attractive we can get people out of their cars.
We strongly believe that development should be regenerative – improving outcomes for both the environment and for people.
