Looking beyond sustainable design, nicholas always strives to create urban environments which contribute positively to the biosphere. This means not simply “keeping things as they are” – which “sustainability” implies – but making a real difference.
When master planning new urban developments, we advocate for the 15-minute connectivity principle, where most things you need are reachable within 15 minutes.
15-minute cities are a series of 1,500m radii which can be walked within that timeframe. A transport hub located within people’s walking radii can then take them further afield.
While 15-minute cities can be defined in terms of car journeys, it is preferable if they work by walking, cycling and different modes of public transport.
Let’s make our Middle East cities diverse and navigable by prioritising interconnected mixed-use developments which people feel at home in, meet their requirements – for housing, schooling, employment, leisure – and which they love to spend time in.
We strongly believe that development should be regenerative – improving outcomes for both the environment and for people.
