Since 2024
Our history
nicholas.design was established in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain in 2024, bringing together an experienced international team under the leadership of founding director Nicholas Bonaventure.
Nicholas has practised architecture across the GCC and internationally for more than 30 years. His earlier career produced some of the region's most recognisable building projects: the Bahrain World Trade Center, Durrat Al Bahrain, Durrat Al Bahrain Marina and designs for the Al Sharq Office Tower in Kuwait City, an award-winning commercial high-rise recognised at the Arabian Property Awards and selected for a MIPIM Future Projects Award.
After a decade practising internationally, he returned to the Gulf to establish nicholas, a studio built on a single conviction: that design excellence and commercial performance are not in tension, but are two interwoven and inseparable parts of the same objective when pursued rigorously.
nicholas.design operates from the Bahrain World Trade Center, the city's most recognisable landmark, with active commissions across the GCC, MENA, the Indian subcontinent, and beyond.

A large-scale resort island town centre commission integrating hospitality, leisure, and residential typologies within a cohesive design framework. A direct demonstration of nicholas.design's capacity to resolve complex mixed-use briefs at the scale and ambition the region demands.
Landmark Tower
A high-rise commission demonstrating our capacity to resolve structural ambition, programme complexity, and urban context at the highest level of brief. Designed for a developer client with demanding commercial requirements and civic aspirations.
Al Sharq Office Tower, Kuwait
An award-winning commercial high-rise in Kuwait City, recognised with the Best High Rise Architecture Award at the Arabian Property Awards and a MIPIM Future Projects Award. A benchmark project for commercial tower design in the GCC.

We are RIBA-chartered, with 30 years of GCC and international project delivery behind our founding director and a studio situated in Manama. International design standards, applied by a team that understands Saudi regulations, construction conditions, and cultural requirements from the ground up.
The principal you meet on Day 1 is the principal for the duration of your project.
Our flat management structure means principals are involved throughout every commission, not just at inception and handover. You work with the same people from the first briefing to the final key.
Architecture that belongs to place.
We design with Khaleeji culture, Najdi and Hijazi principles, and the Gulf's climate embedded from inception. Our work reflects the specifics of place: spatial hierarchy, thermal performance, material intelligence, and cultural resonance incorporated from the first sketch.

The studio
Meet the team
Our founding director, Nicholas Bonaventure, has spent 30 years designing the Gulf's most exacting projects, including the Bahrain World Trade Center, Durrat Al Bahrain, and the Al Sharq Office Tower in Kuwait.
nicholas.design is a studio of ten: seven architects, one interior designer, one landscape and urban designer, and one business development lead. We work in English, Arabic, and Hindi/Urdu. We are non-hierarchical, principal-led, and built to give every client the attention their brief demands.

How we work
We follow a clear, collaborative process from the first conversation to the final handover. No stage is delegated away; the principal team stays on your project throughout.
Discovery. We start by listening. A meeting or series of meetings to understand your brief, your constraints, and what success looks like for you and the people your project will serve.
Concept and design. We develop design concepts in close collaboration with you, working through agreed stages from Concept Design through to Detailed Design and Construction Documentation. You sign off at the conclusion of each stage.
Delivery. We act as lead consultant, coordinating engineers and specialist consultants on your behalf, managing procurement, and guiding contractor selection and tender.
Construction and handover. We stay on your project through build-out, monitoring quality and design integrity, managing commissioning and handover, and supporting you through the Defects Liability Period.
